Our Story

More than a restaurant — a family legacy.

Tropical Joe's is more than just a restaurant — it's a family legacy built on hard work, passion, and authentic Caribbean flavour.

In the early 1970s, Joseph Boodhoo arrived in Canada from Guyana with little more than determination, a strong work ethic, and a dream of building a better future for his family. After establishing himself in a new country, Joseph opened his first restaurant inside a flea market on Weston Road under the name Caribbean Delight.

Serving Toronto's vibrant West Indian community, Joseph focused on traditional Caribbean recipes made with quality ingredients and authentic flavours. Word quickly spread, and a loyal customer base began to grow.

As the business flourished, Joseph launched the now well-known Tropical Joe's brand, opening and developing multiple franchise locations throughout the GTA. Over the years, Tropical Joe's became recognized for its hearty portions, bold Caribbean flavours, and commitment to great customer service.

When Joseph began planning for retirement, his son Chris took over the Gerrard Square location to keep the family tradition alive. Under Chris's leadership, Tropical Joe's evolved to meet the needs of a changing city while staying true to the recipes and values that made the restaurant successful in the first place.

Today, Tropical Joe's continues to serve generations of customers from its Gerrard Square location and its newest location on Sherbourne Street. As independently owned, family-operated restaurants, we take pride in delivering exceptional food, friendly service, and a dining experience that reflects our passion for Caribbean culture and hospitality.

Whether you're visiting us for a quick lunch, a family dinner, or catering for a special event, you'll discover why Tropical Joe's has become one of Toronto's favourite hidden gems.
